Health Care Consumer Advocates
What is a Consumer Advocate?
We use the term to refer to
a person or organization, not a lawyer, who attempts to
intervene with insurers, managed care organizations, and
providers on behalf of patients.
They don't bring lawsuits, or threaten legal action, but
use mediation, negotiation, and 'jawboning'. Many charge
a fee for their services.
HARP does not operate as a Referral Service, and does not
express any opinion on the effectiveness of such services.
Nevertheless, we do receive inquiries from time to time from patients, so, as a
public service, we do list some consumer advocates we know to have
experience in dealing with HMOs.
Consultants and Experts are also listed.
HARP has no connection with these services, and receives
no compensation for listing them nor for any patients who
choose to contact them.
